Implementation Details

1. Fish Types

This week, I implemented three distinct types of fish:

  • Sardine
    • Required Scroll Count: 3
  • Black Rockfish
    • Required Scroll Count: 4
  • Sea Bass
    • Required Scroll Count: 6

2. Bobbing Variety

I copied the mechanics from the original game and introduced some variety: the fish will bite within 2-6 seconds of placing the hook, and the player needs to react within 0.5 seconds.

3. Camera Movement

To enhance the gameplay experience, I matched camera work closely to the reference game:

  • Base Camera: The camera positioned toward the character
  • Fish Hooked: The camera turns to face the player, and there are encouraging sound effects.
  • Caught the Fish: After a successful capture, the game will pause for a few seconds to show the player's loot。

4. UI Layout

I carefully designed the UI to match the reference game:

  • Progress Slider: Centered at the very right of the screen, clearly indicating the player’s progress in reeling the fish.
  • Input Count Slider: Positioned on the top center, reflecting current input count and allowing players to track their performance easily.
  • Current Fish Text: Displayed below the count slider, updating dynamically to inform players of the fish type they are targeting.

5. Creative Enhancements

I incorporated the following creative elements:

Randomization: The selection of fish species and their behaviors are randomized to ensure that each game has a unique feel. The timing of the fish bite is also randomized to keep players on their toes.

Time Attention: I analyzed the timing mechanics of the reference game to ensure that the reel speed and input response matched the original game.

Visual Feedback: Additional visual and audio effects, such as splash animations and sound cues, were added to enhance player engagement and immersion.

Finally, I used a number of voice and music from the Blue Archive, and overall created a new game experience that appeals to a wider range of players.

Together, these features create a more engaging and dynamic fishing experience that ties in closely with the mechanics of the reference game while introducing unique elements that enhance the game experience.
